As colder temperatures settle in ahead of another Great Lakes winter, the November episode of the MPSC’s monthly podcast Behind the Meter explores the Michigan Energy Assistance Program, or MEAP, which provides energy assistance and self-sufficiency services to thousands of Michigan households each year.

Mike Byrne, the MPSC’s Chief Operating Officer and podcast host, speaks with MPSC Chair Dan Scripps and Kasey Grieco, Manager of Energy Assistance for the Michigan Energy Assistance Program at the Superior Watershed Partnership. The partnership is a nonprofit based in the Upper Peninsula that, among other services, manages distribution of energy assistance to U.P. households as a grantee of the MEAP program.

Byrne and Grieco discuss what MEAP is and how it works to prevent shutoff of utility service for income-eligible households with high energy burdens. They also talk about what steps to take if you’re struggling with home energy bills, and how to apply for MEAP help.
