Renewable Energy Standards and Plans

Public Act 235 establishes a renewable energy standard of 50% by 2030 and 60% by 2035. Electric Providers must file amended renewable energy plans by February 27, 2025 that include a forecast of resources that will be needed to comply with the standard.

On February 8, 2024, the Commission initiated Case No. U-21568 to begin implementation work related to the new Renewable Energy Standards.

In this Order the Commission set staggered schedules for the amended Renewable Energy filings pursuant to Section 22 of Act 235 and requested comments on seven topics. The staggered schedules are as follows:

DTE Electric Company filing no later than July 19, 2024

Consumers Energy Company filing no later than November 15, 2024

Alpena Power Company; Indiana Michigan Power Company; Northern States Power Company, Upper Michigan Energy Resources Corporation, and Upper Peninsula Power Company filing their respective amended REPs no later than January 17, 2025

Cooperatives, municipally owned utilities, and alternative electric suppliers filing no later than February 27, 2025.

On April 25, 2024, the Commission issued a subsequent order addressing the comments filed in response to the February 8, 2024, order in this docket and invited comments on the draft amended renewable energy plan filing requirements.

On May 5, 2024, the Commission issued its final order in this docket addressing the comments filed in response to the April 25, 2024, order and approved the amended renewable energy plan filing requirements and template
