For veterans, there's high quality care at the top of our great state

Located in the beautiful city of Marquette, near the shores of Lake Superior, we offer quality care in a home-like environment. Our family-friendly campus surrounds veterans with the support they need, with a staff that's always encouraging wellness and independence.

  • 126 members: Members will have a variety of opportunities to participate in spiritual, social, recreational and educational activities - both on-site and in the surrounding communities.
  • 1 easily accessible building: This veteran-centric community features a four-story building - spanning an entire city block. That means our members have access to everything they need, without having to leave.
  • A rich history: The D.J. Jacobetti Home for Veterans was established in 1981, in the former St. Mary's Hospital building. What's more, it was named for Dominic J. Jacobetti, the longest-serving member of the Michigan House of Representatives.
  • Compassionate care: Every day, our extensive, professional staff focuses on long-term and short-term care, rehab and therapy, dementia and memory care, and palliative care, as well as domiciliary care services. An in-house pharmacy, pastoral care and specialty clinics (such as dental and vision care) are also available.

Stars, Stripes and Delights

The Michigan Veteran Homes D.J. Jacobetti provides expert healthcare with an activities program that’s second to none. Recreation therapists and activity therapy aides ensure our activities program is member-centered with a focus on physical, cognitive, social, emotional and spiritual functioning in order to facilitate full participation in life. Members can take advantage of activities that will strengthen their mind, body and spirit on a daily basis. Whether in large group, small group or one-on-one activities, meaningful activities are an essential part of life. The D.J. Jacobetti activities team provide a variety of activities and opportunities to assist members in maintaining or improving their level of functioning and well-being. This includes sports, arts and crafts, music, wellness programs, games, religious programs and leisure education.

Examples:

  • In-house offerings include a greenhouse, gardening, puzzle room, woodshop and craft room, bingo, movies, performances by local musicians, educational presentations, games and tournament-style events, painting classes, summer campfires, yoga and tai chi groups.
  • Community outings include sporting events at Northern Michigan University, bowling, shopping trips, concerts, theatrical productions, fishing, movie outings, picnics at scenic locations and visits to historical and scenic locations.
  • Area veterans and civic organizations also invite members to fish, play bingo, share a meal or participate in parades and other patriotic events.
  • Special events such as picnics, our annual Member Carnival, Super Bowl party and Vegas Days events.
  • Religious services for various denominations are offered each week.
  • And so much more...

We believe the social, spiritual and emotional well-being of our members is just as important as physical well-being, and often, one affects the other. Members who participate in therapeutic recreation activities report feelings of increased health and decreased levels of stress. The activities schedule is distributed to members monthly, posted daily on bulletin boards and shared with members verbally on a daily basis.
