How the OCA Advocates
The Office of the Child Advocate (OCA) speaks on behalf of children as it works with state policymakers and elected officials to raise awareness of issues facing Michigan's child welfare system and make recommendations for improvement based on its casework and investigations. These recommendations are published in the OCA's Annual Reports.
Protecting Children’s Rights
The child advocate can pursue all necessary action, including legal action, to protect the rights and welfare of a child under the jurisdiction, control, or supervision of a residential facility or a child who is the victim of a Children's Protective Services (CPS) maltreatment in care investigation.
