Mission Statement

  • The mission of the Office of the Children's Ombudsman is to help improve Michigan's child welfare system through awareness, advocacy, public education, review and recommendation. This will be accomplished through independently investigating complaints, advocating for children, and recommending changes to improve law, policy, and practice for the benefit of current and future generations.

Vision Statement

  • The vision of the Children’s Ombudsman Office is to advocate for children by transforming the office to accomplish influence within Michigan’s child welfare system.

Ombudsman Staff

  • The Michigan Office of Children's Ombudsman (OCO) employs a multi-disciplinary team of investigators, many with advanced degrees. Investigator positions are filled by professionals with diverse fields of experience.

Annual Reports

  • The OCO publishes an Annual Report each year reporting on statstics from the fiscal year. The Annual Report also includes the recommendations made to DHHS, DHHS responses to the recommendations and any systemic recommendations.
