Bendix Corporation / Allied Automotive (St. Joseph, Berrien County)
Bendix Corporation / Allied Automotive is located at 3737 Red Arrow Highway, about four miles south of the city of St. Joseph. In the 1950’s and 1960’s chemical waste was disposed of in unlined lagoons, which resulted in on-site and off-site groundwater contamination with metals and other chemicals. This site became a Superfund site in 1990, and groundwater cleanup occurred to address non-PFAS contaminants. In 2025, PFAS was sampled, and the highest results were 19.1 ppt PFOS (compared to 16 ppt) and 17 ppt PFOA (compared to 8 ppt). This plant is currently owned and operated by Bosch Braking Systems.
