The ElectroVoice Superfund site is located at 600 Cecil Street and is the former location of an audio equipment manufacturing company, which operated from 1946 until 2002. Activities at the site included die casting, machining, assembly, painting and electroplating. Poor waste disposal activities caused groundwater to be contaminated with volatile organic compounds, which led to its listing as a Superfund site in 1984.
Some cleanup has occurred over the years, including construction of a landfill cap over lagoons, and soil vapor extraction. Groundwater was sampled for PFAS in late 2025 and PFAS was as high as 39.2 ppt PFOS (compared to 16 ppt). McCoy Creek, which is a tributary of the St. Joseph River.

EGLE, MDHHS, and local health have reviewed nearby residential well logs and determined there are no active wells to sample.
All nearby residents are connected to municipal water. The city of Buchanan’s drinking water supply wells are approximately 0.5 miles side-gradient of this site and outside of the PFAS investigation boundary.
The City has been conducting compliance monitoring for PFAS since January 2021 and has been non-detect for all PFAS to date and they are currently on annual monitoring.
