Chem Central is a two-acre site located at 2940 Stafford Avenue SW and was previously used to distribute industrial chemicals.
Between 1957 and 1962, hazardous waste entered the ground at the facility through a construction flaw in a pipe used to transfer liquids between rail cars and bulk storage tanks. The leak resulted in soil and groundwater contamination.
PFAS in groundwater was as high as 40 ppt PFOA (compared to 8 ppt) and 55 ppt PFOS (compared to 16 ppt).
