Detroit Arsenal Tank Plant Installation BRAC (Warren, Macomb County)
Detroit Arsenal Tank Plant Installation BRAC is located at 6501 East 11 Mile Road and is immediately adjacent to the US Army Garrison – Detroit Arsenal MPART site. This site was used for manufacturing tanks, and during World War II, was the single largest source of tanks made in America. Tanks were produced until 1991, with some parts machining and surface treatment and storage of tanks ongoing until early 1995 when the base was selected for closure. All manufacturing operations were discontinued in December 1996. A preliminary assessment was conducted by the US Army and resulted in finding groundwater over criteria in three groundwater monitoring wells, the highest of which had 115 ppt PFOA (compared to 8 ppt) and 30 ppt PFOS (compared to 16 ppt).
