225 Coats Avenue (Reed City, Osceola County)
225 Coats Avenue was historically used by Wolverine Shoe and Tanning Company to cut, sew, assemble and ship leather gloves, and operated from at least 1942 – 1986. Other companies have occupied the site since 1986, including Shelby Glove Company, and Osceola Recycling. It is currently owned by Northend Storage. A Baseline Environmental Assessment (BEA) contained data showing that this site had PFAS above criteria in three groundwater monitoring wells. The highest concentrations were 85 ppt PFOS (compared to 16 ppt) and 24 ppt PFOA (compared to 8 ppt). A BEA allows a potential purchaser to buy property without being liable for existing contamination. Regional groundwater flow is likely to the east/northeast toward the Hersey River; however, local groundwater flow may vary.
