Whitmer Administration Announces Staff Changes

Jen Flood, Tommy Stallworth to serve on Legislative Affairs team

LANSING, Mich. -- Today, Governor Gretchen Whitmer’s administration announced a series of staff changes within the executive office of the governor.

Jen Flood, currently the governor’s Director of Public Affairs, will serve as Governor Whitmer’s Director of Legislative and Public Affairs. Before her service to the state, Flood previously served as a government policy advisor at Dykema, and spent time in the Michigan House and Senate, including working for then-Senate Democratic Leader Gretchen Whitmer.

“Having had a good deal of personal and professional experience with Ms. Flood, I know firsthand her incredible talent and ability to deliver results,” said House Democratic Leader Christine Greig (HD-37). “Her enthusiasm and professionalism will continue our partnership with the governor’s office and strengthen it. I look forward to working with her collaboratively as a strategic partner to advance our shared democratic agenda to achieve the state we know Michiganders deserve.”

Former Representative Thomas Stallworth III (HD-7) will serve as Governor Whitmer’s Legislative and External Affairs Senior Advisor.

“Tommy Stallworth is a lifelong advocate for the City of Detroit and former State Legislator who has dedicated his career to strengthening our communities,” said Michigan State Senator and Chair of the Michigan Legislative Black Caucus, Marshall Bullock (SD-4). “As former Chair of the Michigan Legislative Black Caucus, Mr. Stallworth is uniquely equipped to serve as a senior advisor to Governor Whitmer, and I’m excited to work with him in his new role.”

“Governor Whitmer has made a smart choice in putting Jen and Tommy at the helm of her Legislative Affairs office, and I look forward to working with them in their new roles,” said Senate Minority Leader Jim Ananich (SD-27). “Our legislative teams will continue to collaborate and focus on making Michigan a state where everyone can thrive.”

Greg Bird, who served as Governor Whitmer’s Director of Legislative Affairs since she was sworn in on January 1st, will serve as the new Managing Director of Legislative and External Affairs at the Michigan Economic Development Corporation.

“Having worked with Greg in his role in the governor’s office over the past months, I’m excited for him to join our team here at MEDC,” said MEDC Chief Executive Officer Jeff Mason. “Greg has the experience and relationships to be well-equipped to help us move forward in our efforts to grow the economy, create vibrant communities and make Michigan a world leader in mobility.”

“Greg Bird has done an incredible service to the state in his role as Legislative Affairs Director, and I’m proud to have worked with him this year,” said JoAnne Huls, Chief of Staff to Governor Whitmer. “We have a strong, talented team across state government, and we’re proud to work alongside the governor as she fights for safe roads, good schools, clean drinking water, and paths to good-paying jobs.”
