Registered Dental Assistant Examination
Michigan RDA Examination
The Michigan RDA examination consists of both a clinical and a written portion.
To take this examination and become registered in Michigan, an applicant must submit an application to the Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs, Bureau of Health Care Services, Health Professions Division. You can download an application packet at this website or to request an application packet which will include examination information, email us at bhpinfo@michigan.gov or call 517-335-0918.
To be eligible for the examination, the application, fee and required documentation must be received in the Application Unit, Bureau of Health Care Services, Health Professions Division, by the deadline date listed below. Please mail to:

Also, an applicant must have graduated from a program for Registered Dental Assistants that has been approved by the board.
The Bureau of Health Care Services, Health Professions Division will mail out an admission letter with complete information concerning the exam approximately 10 to 14 days before the exam. The applicant will receive information on the location and time of the exam along with a map and any additional information needed.
Results are reported approximately six to eight weeks following the examination date.
Effective in March 2008, the RDA clinical exam will include testing on the following procedures: temporary crown and amalgam restoration. Please see the RDA Exam Brochure on this website for more information.
