Reinstatement of an Adjuster License
Before submitting an application, we advise reviewing the web page Insurance Adjuster, Counselor, and Solicitor Application Background Questions: What You Need to Know BEFORE You Apply. DIFS Insurance Licensing staff will conduct background checks and review responses to the background questions.
Resident Adjuster Reinstatement – Adjuster for the Insured (Public Adjuster) and Insurance Adjuster (Independent Adjuster):
A resident adjuster may become inactive due to non-payment of the annual renewal fee by March 31 or the surrender of their license.
- If the license has been inactive less than 12 months
- The applicant is not required to take an examination if requesting the same authority previously held.
- An Electronic Resident Licensing (ERL) application must be submitted through the National Insurance Producer Registry (NIPR) website.
- If the license has been inactive more than 12 months, the process is the same as applying for initial licensure as found on the web pages How to Become Licensed as an Adjuster for the Insured and How to Become Licensed as an Insurance Adjuster.
Non- Resident Adjuster Reinstatement – Adjuster for the Insured (Public Adjuster) and Insurance Adjuster (Independent Adjuster):
A non-resident adjuster may become inactive due to non-payment of the annual renewal fee by March 31, Suspension for Compliance, or the surrender of their license.
- If the license has been inactive less than 12 months
- The applicant is not required to take an examination or provide proof of successful completion of an examination if requesting the same authority previously held.
- An Electronic Non-Resident Adjuster Licensing (NRAL) application must be submitted through the National Insurance Producer Registry (NIPR) website. Please be aware that non-resident adjuster applicants must be licensed in the state in which their principle place of residence or business is maintained for all lines of authority requested in Michigan, if their resident state licenses adjusters.
- If the license has been inactive more than 12 months, the process is the same as applying for initial licensure as found on the web pages How to Become Licensed as an Adjuster for the Insured and How to Become Licensed as an Insurance Adjuster.
