Michigan Department of Insurance and Financial Services to Hold Virtual Public Hearing for Essential Insurance Draft Rules, 2020-25 IF

(LANSING, MICH) In accordance with Governor Gretchen Whitmer’s Executive Order No. 2020-154, the Michigan Department of Insurance and Financial Services is holding a virtual public hearing Sept. 24, 2020, to receive public comments on Administrative Rules for Essential Insurance, Rule Set 2020-25 IF.
These rules would amend the existing rules promulgated under Chapter 21 of the Insurance Code of 1956, MCL 500.2101 to MCL 500.2131, which is generally known as the Essential Insurance Act (EIA) and applies to automobile and home insurance, as defined under the EIA. Changes in the proposed rules relate to procedures for review and determinations and private informal managerial level conferences as well as other general revisions for consistency and clarity. The virtual public hearing will begin at 10:30 a.m. Sept. 24, 2020. Members of the public may join the meeting at its start time by clicking the Microsoft Teams link or by calling 248-509-0316 and entering the conference ID number, 351 136 085, followed by # when prompted. The hearing will take place virtually to preserve the public’s health and safety amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
In addition, the deadline to submit written public comments is Sept. 24, 2020 at 5 p.m. Interested parties are strongly encouraged to submit written comments on the draft rules either by email to EstradaM1@michigan.gov or by postal mail to Michigan Department of Insurance and Financial Services, Office of Research, Rules, and Appeals, P.O.
