FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Feb. 22, 2021
(LANSING, MICH) In light of the economic struggles presented by COVID-19, the Michigan Department of Insurance and Financial Services (DIFS) is participating in America Saves Week to promote the importance of saving, and to encourage Michiganders to save – at any level – to improve their financial wellbeing both during the pandemic and after.
America Saves Week is a national campaign from February 22-26 where thousands of organizations join together to collectively encourage their communities to focus on their individual financial wellness. Each day of America Saves Week has its own theme:
- Monday, February 22 – Save Automatically
- Tuesday, February 23 – Save for the Unexpected
- Wednesday, February 24 – Save to Retire
- Thursday, February 25 – Save by Reducing Debt
- Friday, February 26 – Save as a Family
“The past year has had a profound impact on the finances of many Michiganders, and saving has not necessarily been easy or possible,” said DIFS Director Anita Fox. “By participating in America Saves Week, we hope to highlight the importance of positive saving habits. Setting aside any amount when you are able to, even a small amount, can add a sense of security and accomplishment.”
DIFS will be sharing helpful content throughout the week on Twitter and Facebook to emphasize the value of saving and to provide motivation for individuals and families to start or continue saving for their goals. There is also a wealth of useful information on financial literacy found on the Securing Mi Financial Future page and “My Money and Me” video series on the DIFS website.
The mission of the Michigan Department of Insurance and Financial Services is to ensure access to safe and secure insurance and financial services fundamental for the opportunity, security and success of Michigan residents, while fostering economic growth and sustainability in both industries. In addition, the Department provides consumer protection, outreach, and financial literacy and education services to Michigan citizens.
