Introduction to Benefits
Full-time State of Michigan classified employees are entitled to benefits that include health, dental, vision, life, disability, and flexible spending accounts.
Newly hired employees who are eligible for benefits must call the MI HR Service Center* at 877-766-6447 or submit a benefit enrollment request through the Civil Service Connect portal within 31 days of their hire date to enroll in benefits. Your benefits will be effective the first day of the next pay-period after you've requested enrollment, and if you're adding any individuals to your benefits, their coverage will take effect the first day of the pay-period after the supporting documentation has been received, as long as it's been received within 31 days of your hire date. Benefits are not effective immediately upon hire or immediately after requesting enrollment, with the exception of employee life insurance. Other eligibility requirements may apply to certain insurance plans. If you do not enroll within the first 31 days, your next opportunity to enroll is the following annual Benefits Open Enrollment period.
