Two Plans for Judges

The Michigan Office of Retirement Services administers two different retirement plans for judicial employees: the Defined Benefit Plan and the 401(k) Defined Contribution Plan. Use the information below to determine which plan you belong to and to link to the website for that plan.

 

Retirement Plan Descriptions and Links

Defined Benefit Plan

You're a member of the Defined Benefit Plan if you:

  • Were hired before March 31, 1997, and
  • Are a member of the Defined Benefit Plan unless you elected to transfer to the 401(k) Defined Contribution Plan during the open enrollment window (Jan. 2, 1998, through April 30, 1998).

  • Are newly elected or appointed on or after March 31, 1997.
