Jamar Ragland is a Michigan Reconnect Navigator for students aged 21-24 and is assigned to advise students at Alpena, Bay, Bay Mills, Delta, Gogebic, Grand Rapids, Keweenaw Bay Ojibway College, Kirtland, Mid-Michigan, Montcalm, Mott, Muskegon, North Central, Northwestern Michigan, Saginaw Chippewa Tribal College, St. Clair and Westshore Community Colleges.
Hailing from Detroit, Michigan, Jamar Ragland is a major proponent of overcoming barriers having defied many rising from poverty to become a first-generation college graduate earning his bachelor’s in criminal justice with a minor in African/African American Studies (2013) and masters in Higher Education with an emphasis in College Student Affairs Leadership (2015) both from Grand Valley State University. He is passionate about ensuring college access and providing support to ALL students. Jamar has eagerly served students and education institutions in numerous capacities spanning from K-12 to postsecondary levels by way of MI GEAR-UP, TRIO, Academic Advising and Housing & Residence Life, Admissions and Early College. Jamar also served as a MCAN/AmeriCorps College Adviser at Muskegon High School for two years.
He has high expectations but offers a high level of support. In other words, he will do everything in his power to assist in the student’s growth, their retention and completion and requires the same of them.
