Michigan Certified Assessing Officer (MCAO)

The State Tax Commission (STC) offers two options to individuals interested in obtaining MCAO Certification.
 
  1. The State Tax Commission six month Online/Lecture Hybrid MCAO Program.
  2. Self-Study

STC Online/Lecture Hybrid Program:

The online/lecture hybrid program is a six month program.  The program includes weekly online requirements working with MCAO instructors and in person classroom instruction from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on nine Saturday's throughout the 6 month session.  Certification is achieved by passing a comprehensive exam at the end of the program that covers all areas of study.

The application window for the June 2018 program is now closed.  The application for the January 2019 program will be available from October 1, 2018 until November 1, 2018.

MCAO Application Review Process

 

Self-Study Program:

The self-study program provides individuals with MCAO course material covering nine (9) major areas of study.  To participate in the MCAO Self-Study Program, Form 5371, State Tax Commission Application for Michigan Certified Assessing Officer (MCAO) Self-Study Program, must be fully completed and submitted to the STC.  Applications may be submitted at any time.

Certification is achieved by passing a comprehensive exam at the end of the program that covers the nine major areas of study.
