Unclaimed Property Privacy Notice

This notice describes how personal information about you may be used and disclosed and how you can get access to this information. Please review it carefully.
If we make changes to this Privacy Notice, then the Effective Date will also be updated.
Information We Collect
Pursuant to Michigan Unclaimed Property Law – Uniform Unclaimed Property Act 29 of 1995 - we receive information from businesses, organizations, and government agencies reporting unclaimed property belonging to someone whose last known address is in Michigan. This information may include the owner's:
- name,
- date of birth,
- address,
- phone number,
- email address,
- social security number,
- employer identification number,
- driver's license number, and
- financial information, such as:
- bank account number,
- routing number, and
- other information (if applicable).
How We Use Your Information
Your information is used for purposes of proving your identity and right to claim property.
Protecting Your Information
We follow State of Michigan policies and applicable laws to safeguard your data.
Sharing Information
We may share your information without your permission only when it's required to carry out state or federal law.
We only share your information with people or organizations that:
- Need the information to do their job, and
- Have the legal right to access it.
Retaining Your Information
We manage and dispose of information per state and federal laws:
System Data
- Retained permanently.
Claim Images
- Retained for ten years.
Holder Reports
- Retained for 30 years.
Filing a Privacy Concern
To file a privacy concern, send a written request (by mail or electronically) to us with:
- Your name (or the affected person’s name, if filing for someone else).
- The right you believe was violated.
- The Treasury staff involved (if known).
- The action you request to correct the issue.
- Your contact information (address and phone number).
