State Boundary Commission
Created in 1968, the State Boundary Commission is responsible for adjudicating most municipal boundary adjustments as a nonpartisan, general neutral, quasi-judicial body. In administering the provisions of the Boundary Commission Act (P.A. 191 of 1968) and Administrative Rules, the State Boundary Commission adjudicates all city and village incorporations, all city, village and township consolidations, and certain types of annexations from a township to a city.

The Commission is comprised of three at-large appointees designated by the governor, and four local commissioners who are appointed by the chief probate judge of the county involving a respective petition.

Petitions can only be filed at the business location of the Commission Office, either by mail or in person.
