Whats New

• State Office Closings
Under Executive Order 2009-22 that reduces state spending, the Bureau of Construction Codes, along with other Michigan state government offices, will be closed on the following dates:

Friday, June 19, 2009
Monday, July 6, 2009
Friday, July 24, 2009
Friday, August 7, 2009
Friday, August 21, 2009
Friday, September 4, 2009

Both the bureau's Okemos and Mercantile offices will be closed. This notification is to aid you in your planning since there will be no office services available on those days. All on-line services will still be available (i.e. permits, license renewals). If you have questions on these dates, you may call (517) 241-9302 during regularly scheduled business days.

• Holiday Closing
State offices will be closed on Friday, July 3rd for Independence Day.

• Michigan Boiler Rules
The Michigan Boiler rules were filed with the Secretary of State on May 28, 2009. The rules will adopt the 2007 edition, and its 2008a addenda of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers and the 2007 National Board Inspection Codes. These rules become effective July 27, 2009.

The Michigan Boiler Rules may be purchased from the Michigan Department of Energy, Labor & Economic Growth, Bureau of Construction Codes, P.O. Box 30255, Lansing, Michigan 48909 at a cost of $10.00. Please make check or money order payable to the State of Michigan. In lieu of payment, the notice, complete Michigan Boiler Rules, and the amendments which are only those rules affected during the recent Michigan amendment process, may be downloaded for free from the links below.

• Building Code Review Committee Meeting Change
The Building Code Review Committee will hold its July 22, 2009, meeting at the Michigan Library and Historical Center, 702 West Kalamazoo Street, Lansing, MI 48915 in The Forum room at 9:30am. The main agenda item will be the sprinkler requirements in the 2009 International Residential Code, and all interested parties are invited to attend. • Environmental Protection Agency RRP (Renovation, Repair & Painting) Rules

• 2010 Mandatory Lead-Safety Training and Certification Impacts Home Renovation and Repair Industry

• Reminder to Inspectors
Registration fees under Act 54 increased from $10 to $25 per classification per year beginning 1/1/09. Renewal fees for the 9/17/09 - 9/16/12 cycle will reflect the new fee amount. Renewal forms will be mailed to inspectors mid-July, 2009.

• Code Review
As the deadline of June 15, 2009, for proposed code changes has expired, the Bureau of Construction Codes is no longer accepting proposed code changes for the Code Advisory Committee review phase of the 2009 Michigan Building, Residential, Plumbing, and Mechanical Codes and Rehabilitation Code for Existing Buildings. The code review process is nearing completion. Please monitor this web site for additional updates on these codes.
