License/Registration Renewals

• You must renew your registration every three (3) years by 9/16. You can start renewing your license 90 days before the expiration date. Not all code official licenses expire the same year.
• You may not continue working as a Code Official without an active (non-expired registration).
•  You must log into your Accela account and upload proof that you’ve completed all of your continuing education requirements.  You cannot use Express Pay. Code Official Renewal Instructions
• If you haven’t done so already, you will need to link your code official registration to your Accela account. Linking a License to Your Account
• The fee to renew your code official license is $75.00 per category. Inspection and plan review count as two separate categories. 
• If you do not renew on time, you will have to pay $100 late fee after 60 days.

Electrical Apprentice

• You must renew your registration every year by 8/31. You can start renewing your license 90 days prior to the expiration date.
• You must log into your Accela account and provide the Master/Contractor license numbers for your employer. You cannot use Express Pay. Electrical Apprentice Renewal Instructions
• If you haven’t done so already, you will need to link your apprentice registration to your Accela account. Linking a License to Your Account
• If you need to update your address or contact information, you will need to update your address before renewing.
• You also need to have completed or be currently enrolled in and attending an apprenticeship program.
• The fee to renew your apprentice registration is $15.00.
• If you do not renew it on time, you will have to pay $100 late fee.
• Even if you haven’t renewed your apprentice registration in a long time, you will still renew instead of applying for a new registration.
• You should not be on a job site if your apprentice registration expires, because that is against the law.
• You do not have to take a code update course to renew your apprentice registration.

Electrical Journeyman

• You must renew every year by 12/31. You can start renewing your license 90 days before the expiration date.
• You may renew using Express Pay, which works without logging in to Accela or by logging into your Accela account. Express Payment Renewal Instructions
• If you need to update your address or contact information, you will need to log in and update your address before renewing. You may need to link your license to your account, if you have not done so already. Linking a License to Your Account
• It is $40.00 to renew your license. If you do not renew before your license expires, you have to pay a $50.00 late fee.
• You are not allowed to be on the job site without an active license. Allowing your license to expire may lead to citations and/or enforcement action.
• You are only required to take a code update course within one year of new code being adopted. This does not happen every year.
• If you do need to take a code update course, you do not need to submit proof you completed your course unless you are audited. Please keep a copy for your records.

Electrical/Fire Alarm /Sign Specialty Contractor

• If you need to update your address or contact information, you will need to log in and update your address before renewing. You may need to link your license to your account first, if you haven’t already.
• You also need to have a qualifying Master Electrician/Fire Alarm Specialty Technician or Sign Specialist. If the qualifying license lapses, your contractor license will be placed on hold until they renew, and you notify our office.
• It is $300 to renew your license. If you do not renew before your license expires, you must pay a $50.00 late fee.
• If you do not renew your contractor license before it expires, it may impact your ability to pull permits.
• You are not required to do a code update to renew your contractor license.

Fire Alarm Specialty Apprentice Technician

• You must renew your registration every year by 8/31. You can start renewing your license 90 days prior to the expiration date.
• You must log into your Accela account and provide the Fire Alarm Specialty Technician/Fire Alarm Contractor license numbers for your employer. You cannot use Express Pay. Electrical Apprentice Renewal Instructions

• The fee to renew your apprentice registration is $15.00.

• You should not be on a job site if your apprentice registration expires, because that is against the law.

Fire Alarm Specialty Tech

Elevator Journeypersons

•  If you do not renew within 60 days of your license expiration date, you will need to reapply and retest.   
• You must renew yearly. All expiration dates are different, depending on when your original license was issued. You can start renewing your license 90 days before expiration date.
