CANNABIS CURRICULUM OFFERED BY MICHIGAN COLLEGES AND UNIVERSITIES
List of Michigan Colleges and Universities
Overview: Baker College offers a fully online cannabis curriculum that includes an 8‑week foundational Cannabis Associate Certificate and several 16‑week specialist certificates in areas such as cultivation, product development, retail and sales, compliance, and medical cannabis. These programs are designed to provide practical, job‑ready skills for entry into various sectors of the cannabis industry.
Central Michigan University (CMU)
Overview: Central Michigan University offers an online Cannabis Dispensary Technician certificate that trains students in product knowledge, retail operations, compliance, and consumer guidance. The program is designed to prepare learners for entry‑level roles in licensed cannabis dispensaries.
Eastern Michigan University (EMU)
Overview: Eastern Michigan University offers a 6-week online Certificate in Medical Cannabis, that explores the history, culture, business, legal, and health aspects of medical cannabis, and prepares individuals for emerging roles in the industry. The program covers therapeutic applications, effects on the body, and ethical‑legal considerations related to cannabis use.
Grand Valley State University (GVSU)
Overview: Grand Valley State University offers a Cannabis Operations and Community Planning Undergraduate Certificate, designed to prepare students for roles in retail cannabis, non-profit, or government sectors. The program emphasizes ethical business practices, regulatory knowledge, community health, restorative justice, and includes core coursework in cannabis culture, regulations, responsible operations, and experiential learning through fieldwork.
Kalamazoo Valley Community College
Overview: Kalamazoo Valley Community College offers flexible, 100% online cannabis training programs, including an 8-week Cannabis Associate Certificate and 16-week Specialist Certificates in cultivation, product development, retail & sales, compliance, and medical cannabis. Each certificate is designed to provide real-world, job-ready skills with career support through their Cannabis Career Resource Center.
Lake Superior State University (LSSU)
Overview: Lake Superior State University offers a Cannabis Chemistry program, available as both B.S. and A.S. degrees, focusing on quantitative analysis of cannabis compounds. They also offer a B.S. in Cannabis Business that prepares students for roles as managers, entrepreneurs, or regulatory analysts in the cannabis industry by teaching business fundamentals tailored to cultivation, dispensary operations, and compliance with legal frameworks.
Michigan State University (MSU)
Overview: Michigan State University’s College of Agriculture & Natural Resources offers a comprehensive hemp curriculum through MSU Extension. MSU Extension provides webinars, bulletins, and classes on agronomy, regulations, pest management, and processing. The program equips students and growers with the knowledge needed to support sustainable hemp production and industry best practices.

Additionally, the university’s online non‑credit cannabis certificate programs offer curriculum covering cultivation, business, compliance, product development, and healthcare.
Overview: Wayne State University’s undergraduate Certificate in Cannabis Chemistry provides a focused curriculum on cannabis testing, analytical methods, and regulatory compliance. Western Michigan University (WMU)
