October 8, 2018 – Michigan’s Department of Licensing & Regulatory Affairs (LARA) announced today that the Bureau of Medical Marihuana Regulation (BMMR) has added an additional Medical Marihuana Licensing Board (MMLB) meeting on Monday, October 29, 2018 at the Williams Building in Lansing. The meeting will begin at 1:00 P.M.

In addition to the board’s regularly scheduled meeting on October 18, 2018, this second meeting will allow the MMLB to consider additional applicants for licensure prior to the October 31st deadline for temporary operators. BMMR intends to set up procedures for those applicants approved at the October 29th meeting to pay their regulatory assessment and receive their operating license by close of business on October 31.

On October 1, 2018, LARA issued new emergency rules to continue the implementation of the Medical Marihuana Facilities Licensing Act (MMFLA). Under the new rules, proposed medical marihuana facilities that would otherwise require a state operating license under the MMFLA may continue to operate with local approval until October 31, 2018 without impacting the applicant’s eligibility for licensure.

Any temporary operation after October 31, 2018 is considered unlicensed activity and may result in a referral to law enforcement, the Michigan State Police and/or the Department of Attorney General.

Prior to the October meetings, the MMLB has granted approval for licenses for 19 provisioning centers across the state. 80% of Michigan’s medical marihuana cardholders live in a county that is within 30 miles of a licensed provisioning center – and 94% of the cardholders live in a county that is within 60 miles.
