February 2, 2021 – In order to continue taking proactive steps towards diversity, equity and inclusion in the marijuana industry, the Marijuana Regulatory Agency (MRA) announced today that it has posted the social equity plans of Michigan’s adult-use marijuana licensees on its website.

“As a result of the MRA’s forward thinking, the state of Michigan continues to lead the nation in its approach to diversity, equity, and inclusion in the commercial marijuana industry,” said Andrew Brisbo, the executive director of the MRA. “Licensed operators are key partners in achieving that objective and we applaud those who are willing to be publicly accountable for establishing and advancing plans that support our common goal.”

“The public posting of Michigan licensees’ social equity plans is another step in the direction of providing opportunities for those who suffered the disproportionate impact of the war on drugs,” said Desmond Mitchell, the operations director of the MRA. “The MRA social equity team continues to establish productive partnerships with licensees to provide invaluable educational opportunities and important business connections to our social equity applicants.”

A total of 37 licensees provided consent to the MRA to publish their social equity plans on the MRA’s website. The public can click each of the licensees’ plan and read the details as to how the licensee plans to do its part to promote and encourage participation in the marijuana industry by people from communities that have been disproportionately impacted by marijuana prohibition and enforcement and to positively impact those communities.

The MRA is still waiting for permission from 259 licensees to publish their social equity plans. Licensees that did not provide consent to publish their social equity plans are listed at the bottom of the website page and may submit a consent to publish form at any time.

Questions regarding the publishing of licensees’ social equity plans can be directed to the MRA via email at MRA-SocialEquity@michigan.gov.
