(LANSING) The Department of Insurance and Financial Services (DIFS) Director Anita G. Fox announces the appointment of Joseph Thomas as the Department’s Fraud Investigation Unit Manager.  Thomas’ appointment will be effective Monday, February 25, 2019.

“Joe Thomas brings 31 years of law enforcement experience to the Department’s anti-fraud efforts. I’m confident his background will be beneficial in helping the department combat fraud,” said Fox.

The Manager of the Fraud Investigation Unit will be charged with supervising the analysis and investigation of complaints alleging fraudulent activities in Michigan’s insurance and financial services markets and coordinating DIFS’ investigative efforts with the Attorney General’s Office and law enforcement.

Retired First Lieutenant Thomas most recently served as Michigan State Police Post Commander in Lansing from 2014 until his retirement in 2018.

The creation of DIFS’ Fraud Investigation Unit was announced last September through the issuance of Executive Order 2018-9.
