The Statewide Filter Support Program

Eligible households can receive Filter Support regardless of location, ensuring families across Michigan have access to a filter to reduce the risk of lead exposure while longer-term solutions are pursued.

The Statewide Filter Support Program

The Statewide Filter Support program provides a certified lead-reducing drinking water filter and replacement cartridges to eligible Michigan households. This program offers an immediate way for families to reduce the risk of lead exposure from drinking water and serves as the first step toward additional Get Ahead of Lead services.

The Filter Support Program includes:

  • A certified lead-reducing water filter and replacement cartridges.
  • Optional notifications to remind households to replace cartridges.
  • If eligible, assistance with applying for in-home services through the Healthy Taps program.
  • If necessary, help getting connected to blood lead testing resources.
  • Health education resources.

A household may be eligible for the Statewide Filter Support if:

A child under 19 or a pregnant Medicaid enrollee lives there, and

The home has — or may have — lead plumbing, such as:

  • Lead or galvanized plumbing.
  • A lead service line connecting the home to the street.
  • Faucets or fittings sold before 2014.

Homes served by private wells may also have lead-containing plumbing and may be eligible to receive support.
