Sixty by 30

Our goal: Increase the number of working-age adults with a skill certificate or college degree from 51.8% today to 60% by 2030.

Sixty by 30 seeks to build a better Michigan in three ways:

  • Close the skills gap that poses the single greatest threat to the success of our businesses and our state’s prosperity. Jobs requiring skilled employees today, as well as jobs on the horizon, demand greater education and training than ever before. Increasingly, the best jobs require more than a high school diploma.
  • Increase opportunity and Michiganders greater access to the education and skills that create opportunities for better jobs and bigger paychecks.
  • Make Michigan more competitive for inclusive economic growth.

Futures for Frontliners

Futures for Frontliners was a state scholarship program for Michiganders without college degrees who worked in essential industries during the state COVID‑19 shutdown in spring 2020 (April 1–June 30). The scholarship provided these frontline workers with tuition‑free access to their local community college to pursue an associate degree or a skills certificate, either full‑time or part‑time while they continued working.
