MI Future Educator
What are the MI Future Educator Programs and who is eligible to receive an award?
The MI Future Educator Programs comprise of two programs designed to address certified teacher shortages in the state of Michigan. The two programs are MI Future Educator Fellowship (MI Fellowship) and MI Future Educator Stipend (MI Stipend).
- MI Fellowship - Offers $10,000 scholarships per year, up to three years, for prospective educators who are admitted and enrolled full-time in an Educator Preparation Program (EPP) approved by the Michigan Department of Education (MDE). Recipients must complete a Commitment to Teach in Michigan Agreement (CTMA), which requires that the recipient teach in Michigan in a public school or qualifying public preschool program for a specific number of years.
- MI Stipend - Provides $9,600 stipends to prospective educators who are admitted and enrolled in an EPP and participating full-time in their required student teaching experience in a Michigan public school or public-school academy.
What data is available in this MI Future Educator Data Dashboard?
This MI Future Educator Data Dashboard provides aggregate information on:
- # applicants to the MI Fellowship or MI Stipend programs,
- # eligible students who have completed the entire eligibility process for MI Fellowship or MI Stipend,
- # awarded that have received an award at a participating institution for MI Fellowship or MI Stipend, and
- $ total awarded to-date for MI Fellowship and MI Stipend.
All data has been disaggregated by the Michigan House and Michigan Senate district of the student’s residential zip code, as well as county of residence.
The number of students that apply will be different from the number determined to be eligible, since students must complete the entire process beyond completing an application for their eligibility to be determined to either MI Fellowship or MI Stipend programs. Not all eligible students end up receiving an award due to student enrollment status, academic performance, etc. For questions about MI Future Educator Programs, eligibility criteria and award rules, visit michigan.gov/futureeducator.
