What is the Commitment to Teach in Michigan Agreement for the MI Future Educator Fellowship?
For each year that you receive funding from the MI Future Educator Fellowship, you agree to teach, full-time, in qualifying Michigan schools. Each year that you receive funding increases your Commitment to Teach in Michigan. If you do not complete your Commitment to Teach in Michigan, the amount you received in MI Future Educator Fellowship funding converts to a zero percent interest rate loan that must be repaid within 10 years.
Number of years of MI Future Educator Fellowship awards: Length of time a person must teach in Michigan One Three Years Two Four Years Three Five Years If the student does not continue full time in their Educator Preparation Program (EPP), the amount of Fellowship they received will be converted to a loan with a repayment term of 10 years, plus any deferment period as determined and approved by Michigan Department of Treasury.
If the student graduates, but does not begin working as a full-time teacher in Michigan within 12 months, the amount of Fellowship they received will be converted to a loan that must be repaid within ten years.
Students who do not complete their EPP will be given a six-month grace period to begin payment.
Students who complete the EPP will be given a grace period of 12 months to secure a teaching job at a qualifying Michigan school. (A qualifying Michigan school is defined as a public school or a preschool program that receives funding from either Head Start or Great Start to Readiness.)
The interest rate on the loan is 0%.
The loan will be administrated by the Michigan Department of Treasury’s Student Loan Repayment Division. -
How do I sign the Commitment to Teach in Michigan Agreement?
The Commitment to Teach in Michigan Agreement is issued via email when the applicant’s institution confirms the applicant’s eligibility.
The request to e-sign the document is sent to the email address associated with the applicant’s MISSG Student Portal, from OneSpan, Michigan’s e-signature solution.Students are asked to check their junk or spam folders if they cannot locate this request to sign, and if it cannot be located, to call us at 888-447-2687 or email MiStudentAid@michigan.gov for assistance.
No award will be made if the Commitment to Teach in Michigan Agreement is not signed.
The agreement must be signed by July 15, 2025, but should be signed as early as possible to ensure availability of funds.

Is there a deadline to complete the Commitment to Teach in Michigan Agreement?
Yes, the signed 2024-25 Commitment to Teach in Michigan Agreement must be submitted by July 15, 2025.
