The Electrical Division is responsible for issuing electrical permits, the examination and licensing and renewals of licenses of master and journey electricians, apprenticeship registration, fire alarm specialty technicians, sign specialists, electrical contractors, sign specialty contractors, and fire alarm contractors. Electrical inspectors conduct inspections of electrical wiring and installations. The division also provides staff support to the Electrical Administrative Board and handles electrical code questions.
MCL 125.1504, Sec. 4 of 1972 PA 230, STILLE-DEROSSETT-HALE SINGLE STATE CONSTRUCTION CODE ACT requires the update of the state construction code (building, residential, mechanical, plumbing, and electrical codes) not less than once every 3 years to coincide with the national code change cycle. Therefore, the review process will begin in early January 2012. The Code Change Proposal Form for the Electrical Code and the electrical section of the Residential Code must be received in our office by February 17, 2012.

Michigan Building/Residential Code Rules, Michigan Rehabilitation Code for Existing Buildings Rules, and the Michigan Uniform Energy Code Parts 10 & 10a Rules
The 2009 Michigan Building/Residential, Rehabilitation and Energy Code Rules were filed with the Secretary of State on November 8, 2010, and become effective March 9, 2011. The rules provide the latest standards to protect the health and promote the safety and welfare of the people by regulating the construction, reconstruction and alteration of buildings within the state. The rules provided below are only those rules affected during the recent Michigan amendment process.
