Detroit’s 313 area code is projected to run out of unassigned telephone numbers in 2025, and a proposal has been made to add a new overlay area code (area code 679) covering Detroit and its nearby suburbs. The Michigan Public Service Commission will hold a public hearing in Detroit on March 9th to take public comment on the proposal, pursuant to Case No. U-21337.
