Media Alert: Michigan Veteran Homes at Grand Rapids Volunteers to Plant 5K Flags in Cemetery to Honor Heroes

LANSING, Mich. — Michigan Veteran Homes at Grand Rapids will be receiving assistance from local scout troops to plant more than 5,000+ flags at the gravesites of fallen heroes in the cemetery at 2950 Monroe Avenue NE, Grand Rapids on May 18, 2022 at 6 p.m. Refreshments and hot dogs will be served by the VFW #702 and Auxiliary from 5 – 6 p.m.

The event is open to the public and media are invited to attend to capture the legacy flag-planting event and remarks by Tiffany Carr, community engagement coordinator for Michigan Veteran Homes. There will be a brief prayer led by Boy Scout Troop 344 from Wyoming while the pledge of allegiance will be led by local scouts from Comstock Park Cub Scout Pack 3373. The event will conclude with a final salute and a performance of Taps led by Rick Conklin, who as a former Boy Scout, participated in the annual event. Media should plan to be in place at the entrance to the cemetery no later than 5:45 p.m. and follow all COVID-19 protocols on-site.
