Michigan Office of Retirement Services sent this bulletin at 04/04/2025 12:01 PM EDT
Starting in August 2025, all MPSERS members will have the option to save money for retirement in a Roth 457 account. This change will bring the benefits of Roth accounts to your employees and helps prepare your reporting unit (RU) for upcoming IRS requirements related to the federal Setting Every Community Up for Retirement Enhancement (SECURE) 2.0 Act.To prepare RUs for this update, please visit ORS’ new resource webpage, State of Michigan Roth 457 Accounts. This page will be regularly updated with information and assistance necessary to implement the Roth 457 accounts, including Frequently Asked Questions, Reporting Instruction Manual updates, training, and member communications.
As a result of this update, the way you report Detail 4 records to ORS will be changing. The information you’ll need to change your file layout can be found under Changes to Detail 4 – DC Contributions (DTL4) file layout and footer file layout. Please share these layouts with your payroll vendor or programmers so they can get ready for the programming changes that will need to be in place with the wage and contribution report submitted for the pay period beginning Aug. 25, 2025.
