The "
Providing Residential Services in Community Settings: A Training Guide"
curriculum is the approved curriculum for direct care staff in certified adult foster care facilities. This curriculum was a collaboration of multiple departments and individuals knowledgeable and experienced in areas outlined in the curriculum. The curriculum, as a foundational guide, continues to be applicable.
The components of individual topics within the curriculum have evolved as standards relating to the care of adults have advanced. Due to this fact, alternative curricula is to contain current standards and practices applicable to direct care staff training for certified facilities. For example:
Providing Residential Services
references the Food Guide Pyramid whereas current USDA Dietary Guidelines use MyPlate. Additionally there are topics relevant to direct care staff training that did not exist when Providing Residential Services was developed. Trainers will need to determine which topics to add to the curriculum based on the staff being trained. See the list of topics in the Resources section below to determine your training needs.
Requirements
There are specific requirements for Direct Care Staff Curriculum for Certified Facilities. All alternative curricula must meet these requirements. The Direct Care Staff Alternative Curriculum Submission Requirements
provides the details you need to do so. It is structured as a checklist. Please submit the checklist with your curriculum.
Resources
Curriculum guides are available to assist in the development of alternative curriculum. These guides were developed by the State Training Guidelines Workgroup to assist in structuring effective training. The workgroup has identified requirements, competencies, trainer qualifications and recommendations for multiple topics. Please review the Guidelines Preface Sheet before accessing the guidelines to gain a full understanding of their purpose. The letter size flow chart or legal size flow chart will also assist in understanding the guidelines. The guidelines are listed in alphabetic order.
