Plumbing Examination Schedules, Examination/Licensing Information and Applications, and Apprentice Registration

Please note that as of September 1, 2016 the Bureau of Construction Codes will no longer administer the Plumbing Examinations.  Once you have been approved to take the examination, you will be contacted by PSI to schedule your examination date and time at your convenience.  All future examinations will be conducted by PSI at one of the five centers selected by the applicant.  Examinations will be continuously scheduled 6 days a week.

 

NOTICE: ONCE YOUR APPLICATION IS APPROVED YOU WILL BE NOTIFIED BY A THIRD PARTY TESTING AGENCY (PSI) WITH INSTRUCTIONS ON HOW TO SCHEDULE YOUR EXAMINATION. ALL EXAMINATION FEES WILL BE PAID TO PSI AT THAT TIME. PLEASE DO NOT SEND PAYMENT TO THE STATE OF MICHIGAN/BUREAU OF CONSTRUCTION CODES.
 

Plumbing Apprentice Registration


Qualifications for a Journey Plumber License

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Has not less than 3 years experience as a registered plumbing apprentice in the practical installation of plumbing under the supervision of a licensed authorized master plumber.
  • Must pay the examination fee and pass the examination.
  • Must pay the license fee.

Qualifications for a Master Plumber License

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Must have 4,000 hours experience in work as a journey plumber over a period of not less than 2 years immediately preceding the date of the application.
  • Must pay the examination fee and pass the examination.
  • Must pay the license fee.
