Brian Gutowski is an Emmet County Commissioner and was first elected for a term starting in 2023 and was re-elected for a four-year term through 2028. He has served on the MAC Transportation Committee since 2023 and is the current Chair.
He was the Engineer-Manager with the Emmet County Road Commission from 1995 until his retirement on August 25, 2022. He has a B.S. in Civil Engineering from MTU and is a Professional Engineer in the State of Michigan. Brian served as Chairman of the County Road Association (CRA) of Michigan Engineering Committee from 2002 through 2006. Brian was Chair of the CRA Winter Operations Committee from its’ founding in 2004 until 2015. Brian was selected as the 2005 Michigan Rural County Engineer of the Year by his peers. Brian served on the Michigan County Road Commission Self-Insurance Pool Board from 2010 until his retirement and served as Chair from 2014-2016.
In 2008, Brian received the CRA Best Practices Award for his efforts in Asset Management and for the Emmet County Road Commission Township Outreach Effort. Brian also received the Outstanding Leadership Award by the Michigan Transportation Asset Management Council in 2009. Brian received an award from the Michigan Township Association of Supervisors for his presentation on “What Works and What Doesn’t” on Road Improvements and working with the Townships for improvements to local roads.
