Do institutions use their published Cost of Attendance (COA) or the student’s individual COA?
The student's Michigan Achievement Awards must fit within their COA each semester. For the calculation of the Michigan Achievement Scholarship Minimum Award, a student’s individual COA can be considered.
Michigan Achievement Scholarship Last-dollar Award must be applied towards tuition, contact hours, mandatory fees, and other costs up to the student’s cost of attendance.
All parts of the Michigan Achievement Scholarship must remain within the student's individual COA.

Can institutional aid be reduced for students who receive either the Community College Guarantee or Michigan Achievement Scholarship at Four-Year Public and Private Institutions?No, please refer to the Michigan Achievement Scholarship Packaging Guidance to review the order of packaging for students with multiple awards.Also, it is the intent of the legislature that an eligible institution will not make reductive changes to scholarship or financial aid programs offered by that eligible institution that have the goal or net effect of shifting the cost burden of those programs to the program described in this section.

Does the Michigan Achievement Scholarship cover costs for international travel?
The Community College Guarantee Last-dollar Award will only cover costs up to the In-district Tuition, Contact Hours, and Mandatory Fees.
The Michigan Achievement Bonus and Michigan Achievement Scholarship at 4-Year Institutions may cover expenses included within the student's Cost of Attendance.

How are Promise Zones impacted?
If Promise Zones are restricted to tuition and fees, the Promise Zone must be applied before the Community College Guarantee Last-dollar Award.
If Promise Zones are not restricted to tuition and fees, the Community College Guarantee Last-dollar Award may be applied before non-restricted aid; however, the combined awards may not exceed the student’s COA.

If a student didn’t use their full $5,500 of Michigan Achievement Scholarship award this aid year, can they use remaining funds for a different semester?If the student used two semesters worth of the Michigan Achievement Scholarship, any remaining funds cannot be rolled over into another semester. However, within the aid year, if the student only used one semester of funding, they may use their remaining funds up to the semester maximum for a second semester.
Example 1:
Student was enrolled Fall semester and used $1,000 of their $1,250 Michigan Achievement Scholarship Minimum Award. The student took the Spring semester off. Because the student has not yet utilized the two semesters of eligibility; in Summer semester, the student has a remaining $1,250 Minimum Award and $1,500 Last-Dollar Award to use.
Example 2:
Student was enrolled Fall semester and only used $1,000 of their $1,250 Michigan Achievement Scholarship Minimum Award. For the Spring semester, the student used the full $1,250 Minimum Award and $1,500 Last-Dollar Award. For Summer semester, the student has no remaining funds for the remainder of the aid year because they have already utilized two semesters worth of the scholarship. -
If a student has a full tuition scholarship, can we still award the Minimum and Last-dollar award if the student still has room in their COA?Yes, students can be awarded both the Minimum award AND the Last-dollar award as long as they have remaining room in their COA.

If the student does not have a disbursement for the Fall semester due to no attendance, etc., can they still receive the full disbursement of $5,500 during the Winter/Spring as long as they have need and meet the awarding criteria?No, Michigan Achievement Scholarship now has semester award limits at four-year public and private institutions that are outlined in the Michigan Achievement Scholarship Packaging Guidance document.

Is there a minimum dollar amount that can be awarded?The minimum payment amount is $0.01.

What is the difference between the Michigan Achievement Scholarship Minimum and Last-dollar Awards now that they both can cover up to COA?The Michigan Achievement Scholarship Minimum and Last-dollar Awards are now awarded similarly; however, their names remain the same and it is required that we continue to report these two funding buckets separately.

All eligible participants may receive the Michigan Achievement Scholarship Minimum Award and Last-dollar Award up to their Cost of Attendance (COA). For reporting purposes institutions will be required to certify both amounts separately.
