Can private institutions award Michigan Tuition Grant (MTG) instead of the Michigan Competitive Scholarship (MCS)?Michigan Competitive Scholarship cannot be awarded in conjunction with Michigan Achievement Scholarship. Private Institutions can award both the Michigan Tuition Grant and the Michigan Achievement Scholarship to eligible students.

Are both credit hours and contact hours allowable?The last dollar award can only be used for tuition (credit hours) and mandatory fees. The minimum award can be applied to all components of the cost of attendance, including contact hours.

Can the Michigan Tuition Grant (MTG) funds reduce the Michigan Achievement Scholarship award?There would be no change to the Michigan Tuition Grant (MTG) amount, but after Michigan Tuition Grant (MTG) is included in the student’s financial aid award, it could reduce the Michigan Achievement Last-dollar Award that the student may be eligible for.

For the calculation of the Michigan Achievement Scholarship Minimum Award, a student’s individual COA can be considered.
The calculation of the Michigan Achievement Scholarship Last-Dollar Award must be based on the lowest tuition rate charged to in-state/in-district students at your institution.

Is there a minimum dollar amount that can be awarded?There is no minimum dollar amount; however, the award must be rounded to the nearest whole dollar.

What is the difference in the Michigan Achievement Scholarship Minimum Award and Michigan Achievement Scholarship Last-dollar Award?
All eligible participants will receive the Michigan Achievement Scholarship Minimum Award. The minimum award must first be applied towards tuition and mandatory fees and any remaining minimum award after gift aid may be applied towards Cost of Attendance.

Why is the Michigan Achievement Scholarship Minimum Award included in gift aid?Per P.A. 212 of 2022, Sec. 248 (2c), awards received for minimum payments awarded in subsection (4) must be included in the gift aid calculation.
