May 25, 2022
LANSING, Mich. — Four veteran members from Michigan Veteran Homes D.J. Jacobetti (MVHDJJ) traveled to Washington D.C. today as part of the Upper Peninsula Honor Flight. Blaine Marceau, a U.S. Army veteran; James “Jim” St. Peters, a U.S. Navy veteran; James “Jim” Streeter, a U.S. Army veteran; and Neal Brown, a U.S. Air Force veteran, joined 80 veterans on the flight, which transports Upper Peninsula veterans to Washington D.C. for the day to see the memorials that stand in their honor.
The veterans received a parade escort to Delta County Airport in Escanaba and traveled by bus to tour D.C.-area landmarks including the WW II Memorial, Lincoln Memorial, Washington Monument, Korean War Veterans Memorial, Vietnam Veterans Memorial and National Mall. Shari Smith, activities director for MVHDJJ and Susannah LaCombe, registered nurse manager for MVHDJJ accompanied the members on their trip.
“It’s pretty special to be able to share this trip with our members,” said Shari Smith, activities director for MVHDJJ. “Jim, Blaine, Neal and Jim are all veterans of the Vietnam War so I know visiting the Vietnam Veterans Memorial will be of special importance to them. I am excited for the community to come out and support the veterans as they depart the plane and give them a welcome home they deserve.”
The home is encouraging the community to join them tonight at Delta County Airport to support the veterans as they return home. The veterans are scheduled to land at 8:30 p.m.
