MET Students Preparing for College

Congratulations! You are ready to use your MET. No matter if you are planning on attending a Michigan public college or university, attending a Michigan private college, planning to attend an out-of-state school or not attending college we are here to guide you through the process.

As a MET Beneficiary you have 15 years from your expected high school graduation date to use your MET benefits, transfer unused benefits to an immediate family member or request a refund if not attending college.

You may activate your benefits and perform many other actions online through MET's Customer Access Portal.

Step-By-Step Guide to Online Registration and Contract Activation

To begin using your MET, follow these steps:

  • Access the MET customer access portal website.
  • Click on “Register for Online Access.”
  • Follow the prompts to create an online account and select your security questions.
  • To link your online account to your existing MET contract, fill in your account type, Social Security number and MET contract number and follow the instructions on the screen.
    • Your MET contract number can be found on your Contract Data Sheet (what was sent when the contract was purchased). It can also be found on mailed communications from MET.
    • If you cannot find your MET contract number. Call MET at 800-638-4543.
  • Register for Multi-Factor Authentication using either an email address or a cell phone number.
  • Once you have reached the home screen, click on "Benefits Information."
  • Use the links on the Benefits Information screen to select how you will use your MET.
  • Complete the form to select your school, semester and year.
  • Once submitted, you will see an on-screen confirmation and receive an email confirmation.
