Race and Ethnicity
In 2007, the U.S. Department of Education released guidance on maintaining, collecting, and reporting racial and ethnic data. The guidance brought U.S. ED in alignment with other federal agencies that had adopted the 1997 U.S. Office of Management and Budget Revisions to the Standards for the Classification of Federal Data on Race and Ethnicity. Starting with the 2010-11 school year, all school districts were required to implement the U.S. ED guidance.
