What is a Teacher of Record?“Teacher of Record” is defined in the 2024-25 MDE Pupil Accounting Manual as one who is responsible for providing instruction, determining instructional methods for each pupil, diagnosing learning needs, assessing pupil learning, prescribing intervention strategies, and modifying lessons, reporting outcomes, and evaluating the effects of instruction and support strategies.

A student teacher in our district presented a MI Future Educator Stipend Verification Form. When can I complete it?The MI Future Educator Stipend Verification Form was only required for the 2022-23 award year. As the 2022-23 award year has closed you do not need to complete this form.

How do the students receive their MI Future Educator Stipend?
If the student is attending a public institution, the MI Future Educator Stipend will be sent by the Michigan Department of Treasury directly to the public institution to be disbursed to the student.
If the student is attending a private institution, the MI Future Educator Stipend will be sent by the Michigan Department of Treasury to the school district where the student is completing their student teaching. The school district MUST forward this payment onto the student’s institution. The private institution will disburse the MI Future Educator Stipend to the student.
Note: For payments issued to school districts, Michigan Department of Treasury will provide students’ demographic information, payment amount and institution with each payment.

When will the Michigan Department of Treasury issue MI Future Educator Stipend payments?
Payments for the 2025-26 academic year will begin after October 1, 2025.
