School Districts

  • “Teacher of Record” is defined in the 2023-24 MDE Pupil Accounting Manual as “the certificated teacher who provides instruction, gives tests and quizzes, evaluates the pupil’s performance and gives the pupil a grade.” Michigan Department of Education considers a ‘certificated teacher’ to be a person who has a valid certificate or permit. If the student teacher is working under a substitute teacher permit AND is providing instruction, giving tests and quizzes, evaluating the pupils’ performance and issuing grades, the student teacher would not qualify for a MI Future Educator Stipend.
  • The MI Future Educator Stipend Verification Form was only required for the 2022-23 award year. As the 2022-23 award year has closed you do not need to complete this form.
  • No. This is not the same as proposed HB 6013

  • If the student is attending a public institution, the MI Future Educator Stipend will be sent by the Michigan Department of Treasury directly to the public institution to be disbursed to the student.

If the student is attending a private institution, the MI Future Educator Stipend will be sent by the Michigan Department of Treasury to the school district where the student is completing their student teaching. The school district MUST forward this payment onto the student’s institution. The private institution will disburse the MI Future Educator Stipend to the student.

Note: For payments issued to school districts, Michigan Department of Treasury will provide students’ demographic information, payment amount and institution with each payment.

  • Payments for the 2023-24 academic year have begun and will continue on a weekly basis until August 2024.
