Community College

The Community College Plan provides:

  • In-district tuition and mandatory fees at any Michigan public community college
  • An individual may purchase in credit hour increments (using Pay-As-You-Go), or semesters increments (Lump Sum or Monthly Purchase). Individuals may purchase up to five years (150 credit hours) of tuition under these plans.
  • If a student chooses to attend a Michigan public university, funds can be directed to the university. The amount of funds will be based on weighted average tuition of the Michigan community colleges at the time the student requests the funds, but not less than the amount paid for the contract. The funds are paid over a two year period in equal amounts.
  • If a student chooses to attend a Michigan independent (private) college, funds can be directed to the college. The amount of funds will be based on weighted average tuition of the Michigan community colleges at the time the student requests the funds, but not less than the amount paid for the contract. The funds are paid over a two year period in equal amounts.
  • If a student chooses to attend an out-of-state college or university, funds can be directed to the college or university. The amount  of funds will be based on the average tuition of the Michigan community colleges at the time the student requests the funds, but not less than the amount paid for the contract. The funds are paid over a two year period in equal amounts.
  • If a student chooses not to attend college or attends a trade school a refund can be directed to the Refund Designee as named in the contract. The refund amount will be based on the lowest of the Michigan community colleges tuition rates at the time of the refund request, but not less than the amount paid for the contract. Refunds are paid over a two year period in equal amounts.

Some areas of the state are not within a community college district. Students who attend a community college out of their district will be responsible to pay the difference between the out-of-district and in-district tuition cost. MET Community College Plans do not cover contact hour fees or lab fees.
