Preschool Development Grant B-5
Michigan is one of 46 states and territories to receive funding through the Preschool Development Grant Birth through Five (PDG B-5).
PDG B-5 grants, which differ significantly from the previous Preschool Development Grants, are designed to fund states to conduct a comprehensive statewide birth through five needs assessment followed by in-depth strategic planning, while enhancing parent choice and expanding the current mixed delivery system consisting of a wide range of provider types and settings, including child care centers and home-based child care providers, Head Start and Early Head Start, state pre-kindergarten, and home visiting service providers across the public, private and faith-based sectors.
Michigan’s federal award during the grant period (12/31/2018 – 12/30/2019) is $5,058,813, with a state match of $1,517,644 for a total of $6,576,457.

PDG B-5 Grant Required Activities
Conducting or updating a periodic needs assessment;
Developing or updating a strategic plan;
Maximizing parental choice and knowledge about the state’s mixed delivery system;
Sharing best practices; and
Improving the overall quality of early childhood care and education activities.
