MiLEAP Announces $75 Million Available to Expand Learning Opportunities Outside of the Classroom
October 13, 2025
Competitive Out-of-School Time Grants Support Before-, After-School, and Summer Programming that Help Michigan Students Thrive
LANSING, Mich.— The Michigan Department of Lifelong Education, Advancement, and Potential (MiLEAP) today announced that the Intent to Apply period is now open for the 2025-26 Out-of-School Time (OST) Grant Program. As part of an overall $75 million investment in OST programming included in the Fiscal Year 2026 bipartisan state budget, MiLEAP will award approximately $73 million in competitive grants to eligible organizations that offer before-, after-school and summer programming for students in grades K-12.
“High-quality out-of-school time programs give Michigan’s young people safe spaces to learn, grow and thrive,” said Dr. Beverly Walker-Griffea, director of MiLEAP. “By investing in programs that strengthen academic skills, spark new interests, and connect students with caring adults, we’re ensuring Michigan’s children and families have the opportunities and resources they need to succeed in the year ahead and beyond.”
Competitive grants will be awarded to organizations that demonstrate a strong commitment to providing high-quality expanded learning opportunities, including but not limited to literacy and STEM education, mentoring and leadership development, college and career exploration, visual and performing arts, physical fitness, conflict resolution, community engagement, and social engagement programming.
Applicants may include tax exempt-community-based nonprofit organizations, Tribal Nations, faith-based and religious organizations, institutions of higher education, public libraries, city and local government sponsored programs, and intermediate school districts that meet state licensing or exemption requirements for school-age or camp programs and serve at least 15 students for a minimum number of days during the school year or summer.
Interested organizations are encouraged to submit an Intent to Apply form through their Mi Login for Business account to receive access to the application.
