MiLEAP Encourages Eligible Applicants to Apply for Expanded Learning Opportunities for Michigan Students by November 18 Deadline
LANSING, Mich. – The Michigan Department of Lifelong Education, Advancement, and Potential (MiLEAP) today announced that the application period is now open for the 2025-26 Out-of-School Time (OST) Grant Program. Eligible organizations may apply through November 18 for the $73 million in funding to provide expanded learning opportunities for Michigan students in grades K-12.
“Every Michigan student deserves access to learning opportunities that extend beyond the traditional classroom,” said Dr. Beverly Walker-Griffea, director of MiLEAP. “This $73 million will have a big impact in communities across the state, helping students stay engaged, discover new interests, and build the skills they’ll carry through their lifelong learning journeys.”
To be eligible, programs must offer in-person services for at least 15 students daily for a minimum of 50 days during the school year or 24 days during the summer, ensuring consistent engagement and enrichment opportunities for participants.
Eligible grant applicants include:
- Non-profit community-based and faith-based organizations,
- Federally recognized Tribal governments,
- Institutions of higher education,
- Public libraries,
- Local governments, or
- Intermediate school districts
Applicants must also possess or be actively pursuing licensure as a child-care or camp organization through the State of Michigan Child Care Licensing Bureau.
“We know this funding can make a real difference for kids and communities, but the window to apply is short,” said Rawlan Lillard II, deputy director for the Office of Education Partnerships at MILEAP. “We’re encouraging every eligible organization to act quickly, take advantage of our support sessions, and submit strong applications that help bring more quality learning opportunities to Michigan students.”
To assist applicants throughout the process, MiLEAP continues to host a series of technical-assistance sessions covering GEMS navigation, eligibility requirements and grant guidance.
Upcoming session dates include:
- Wednesday, Oct. 22, 2025, 10:30 a.m.
- Thursday, Oct. 23, 2025, 10:30 a.m.
- Tuesday, Oct. 28, 2025, 1:30 p.m.

Applications must be submitted through the Grant Electronic Monitoring System (GEMS) by noon on November 18.
As part of a $75 million investment included in Michigan’s Fiscal Year 2026 bipartisan state budget, OST grants provide funding to organizations that deliver safe, high-quality programming before school, after school, and during the summer months. In the previous grant cycle, MiLEAP awarded more than $55.8 million in OST funding to 169 organizations serving youth and families at nearly 700 program sites, reaching more than 90,000 students statewide this year alone.
Interested organizations can register for sessions, find more on eligibility, and access full application details on the Out-of-School Time Grants webpage.
