Michigan Commission on Law Enforcement Standards Immediately Suspends Public Act (PA) 302 of 1982 Funding for Street Cop Training
Lansing, Michigan – Effective immediately, the Commission on Law Enforcement Standards has suspended funding eligibility through the Michigan Justice Training Fund (PA 302 of 1982) for Street Cop Training, a private training company. The Commission was made aware of questionable and unprofessional remarks made by several Street Cop Training instructors during a previous training session delivered in another state during 2021. Based on this information, the Commission has suspended 302 funding eligibility for Street Cop Training, pending further review and investigation.
The Michigan Justice Training Fund is a restricted fund; state dollars may be used by recipient agencies only for the criminal justice in-service training of eligible trainees. Under Executive Order 2001-5, the Commission is responsible for the administration of the fund.
Its responsibilities under PA 302 are to:
- annually distribute 60% of the justice training fund to eligible entities under the law enforcement distribution and
- annually distribute, through a competitive grant process, the balance of the fund after administrative costs have been deducted.
