2024 and 2025 Color Vision Reports

July 1, 2025

The State of Michigan requires all individuals selected as law enforcement officers to meet the medical selection qualifications outlined in Michigan Administrative Code Rule 28.14204. According to licensing standards for Michigan entry-level1 law enforcement officers, applicants must “possess normal visual functions at a level necessary to perform the job of a law enforcement officer;” however, the standard does not require perfect visual acuity and permits for corrected vision. The 2024 Color Vision Standard and the 2025 Visual Acuity Standard are supported by the 2018 Job Task Analysis (JTA), previous JTAs, and the essential job functions of a law enforcement officer. The Commission has the statutory responsibility to ensure that the entry standards accurately reflect the contemporary position of an entry-level law enforcement officer.
