Public Safety Academy Assistance Appropriation III Important Update
June 10, 2026
June 10, 2026
Dear Law Enforcement Community,
As of June 8, 2026, the Commission has received 406 Public Safety Academy Assistance (PSAA) – Appropriation III applications from 162 agencies totaling $8,054,802.13 in requested funds. There is $1,945,197.87 remaining in grant funding. As such, we expect that the funding will be exhausted in preparation for fall academies.
As a reminder, submit completed applications to the basic academy you have selected as soon as possible. A completed application packet contains the following:
- Signed application.
- Candidate New Hire Affidavit.
- Invoices for approved additional recruit expenses.
These are limited, competitive grant funds and therefore completing an application for funds is not a guarantee the grant will be awarded.
Visit the MCOLES Public Safety Academy Assistance Program - Appropriation III website for the most up-to-date information and announcements related to the status of the funds.
Respectfully,
Tim Bourgeois
Executive Director
Michigan Commission on Law Enforcement Standards
